Meet the Staff

 The Rev. Kenny A. Bowen began serving as our pastor in July, 2003. Pastor Bowen is a graduate of Florida International University, Miami, Florida and Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. Before coming to Resurrection, Long Beach, Pastor Bowen served parishes in Akron, Ohio and Glendora, California.
Pastor Bowen also serves as the Ecumenical Representative for Bishop Dean W. Nelson, our Synodical Bishop. He is presently serving as the President of the Board for Southern California Ecumenical Council, Pasadena, CA.

 Christopher Hetherington began serving Resurrection as Director of Music in 2002. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from California State University, Long Beach as well as a Master’s degree in Music from the University of Southern California. An accomplished vocalist, Christopher leads and directs our Praise Band as well as our Chancel Choir.

 Akari Banno began serving Resurrection as pianist/keyboardist in 2006. She holds a bachelor's degree in Music from California State University, Long Beach. She currently is enrolled in a Masters degree program at University of Southern California. A blessing to us all, Akari is a native of Japan and a delight to be around with her profound love of muisc.

 David Smock serves Resurrection as Parish Secretary. As a boy, David attended Lutheran Schools at St. John's and Bethany in Long Beach. Following high school at Valley Christian in Cerritos and Long Beach City College, he was graduated cum laude from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington with a B.F.A. in communications arts/broadcast journalism. In his spare time, he is a professional sportscaster announcing college sports on Internet TV for Cal State Dominguez Hills plus free-lance assignments for South Bay are cable TV systems.

Elena Battaglia began serving Resurrection as Preschool Director in 2008. She brings with her a high motivation for the care and nurturing of preschool children. She supervises two preschool teachers and welcomes potential parents and students to tour our facilities located at 345 East Carson Street, Long Beach, CA 90807.
